Brisbane Broncos Learn to Surf
December 2023
Weather Guard swapped balls for boards as Broncos Jesse Arthars, Deane Mariner and Tristan Sailor headed out for a surf with current World No. 20 Callum Robson at Kirra Beach, on the Gold Coast.
Players and Robson were also joined by fellow WSL surfer Jacob Willcox and Morgan Cibilic, as well as one lucky Bronco’s fan, who won the opportunity for the surf session through a Weather Guard and Bailey Ladders competition run during the WSL Australian leg events earlier in the year.
Weather Guard, a proud partner of both the Brisbane Broncos (2023 and 2024) and the World Surf League in 2024.
“It was cool to have some pro surfers showing me and the boys a thing or two in the surf, we definitely needed it,” said Arthars. “We all got a few pointers, which was good.
“We do a fair bit of cross-code work at the club, and we’re so thankful for opportunities like this and it’s great to have sponsors like Bailey Ladders and Weather Guard that sponsor these Aussie sports, so it’s been a great day.”
“I’ve always lived on the beach, so I’m always out and about.
“That’s one of the reasons other than growing up here, I like to hang out at the beach, out of the city - it’s good for the mind, it’s a good lifestyle.
Robson, a Bailey Ladders Ambassador hasn’t ruled out being in Vegas for the NRL season opener, currently scheduled to be at Sunset Beach in Hawaii when the Broncos arrive in camp in Los Angeles, before heading to Portugal for the March 6 tournament.
“It’s awesome, it’s good to see the boys from league come down, I’m sure they’re stoked to have some time away from training and come down and enjoy the waves,” Robson said.
